Ten years after his death, Army 1st Lt. Nainoa Hoe was honored Jan. 22 from Wahiawa to Washington, D.C. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery for Hoe, a member of the Army’s Gimlet Battalion. The popular platoon leader was killed by a sniper in Mosul, Iraq in 2005. U.S. Reps. Mark Takai and Tulsi Gabbard attended the D.C. event, along with Ashley Arethel, standing in for U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz. Nainoa’s father, Allen Hoe (now the local civilian aide to Secretary of the Army), honors his memory each year at Schofield Barracks and awards scholarships in his name.
On Jan. 22 on Oahu, more than 100 soldiers completed the Nainoa Hoe Memorial Platoon Leadership Challenge, with closing ceremonies at Schofield’s Nainoa Hoe Mission Training Complex at Schofield … Whittier College in Southern California has announced its fall dean’s list, and three Mililani residents are on it: Terianne Hamada, Kelly Stinefelt and Tiffani Tejada …
