‘Shame’ Part Of National Library Week

In celebration of National Library Week, Kapolei Library will host Three Kinds of Shame, a poignant and humorous readers’ theatre drama about hard times in Hawaii at 10:30 a.m. April 28.

In the production, Ken Matsuyama, 69, loses his job at a local plumbing firm and finds himself at the unemployment office.

The one-hour performance is free and features Dann Seki (stage and screen actor and storyteller), Neal Milner (actor, storyteller, playwright and author), Nyla Fujii-Babb (storyteller, actress, voice-over talent and producer) and musical “Gentleman” Jeffry Stephen Babb (blues singer and balladeer). This group of four also is responsible for Novel Destinations: There’s the Door.

Seki has appeared in numerous plays around Honolulu and also was a radio broadcaster on KUMU-FM for 15 years. Milner is a retired professor of political science from UH Manoa, and is a political analyst for many print and broadcast media during local elections.

Fujii-Babb of Aiea is a retired librarian and has participated in various theatre productions. Babb, Nyla’s husband, is not only an outdoorsman and surfer who made Hawaii his home 40 years ago, but he also has been lead vocalist and rhythm guitar and harmonica player in several blues bands.

This performance is suitable for ages 18 and older, and is directed by Keith Kashiwada with music composed by Bob Dylan.

Public libraries around the state will host free programs throughout the month of April for National Library Week, which is designated as April 8-14.
