Heeia Wetland Seeks Interns For Ag Work

The nonprofit Kako’o ‘Oiwi seeks paid interns for a new program of hands-on training in traditional taro farming as well as contemporary agriculture practices in Kaneohe.

Called Ho’oulu I Na Mahi’ai (growing farmers), the group’s first-ever internships will begin next month, and applications are due by April 24. Interns will be paid $11 per hour for a commitment of 900 hours for six months of working in the Heeia wetland. Hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. four days a week and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month. No experience is required but “a strong interest in learning about farming and Hawaiian culture is a must.”
