Huskies’ Kikaha A Pac 12 All-Star
University of Washington linebacker and former Kahuku High standout Hau‘oli Kikaha was selected as a Pac 12 Conference’s First Team All-Star, the league office revealed.
A fifth-year senior from Laie, Kikaha spent most of the season as the nation’s sack leader in Division I. To date, he’s recorded 67 total tackles with 24 for a loss and 18 sacks. He’s set school records for season and career sacks and single-season TFLs. Kikaha is a finalist for the Lombardi, Butkus and Polynesian Football Player of the Year awards, and also is a two-time Academic All-Pac-12 first-teamer.
Kikaha was a part of two Oahu Interscholastic Association Championship teams (in 2008 and 2009) when he played for Kahuku.
The All-Pac-12 team is voted on by the conference coaches. Washington finished its 2014 regular season at 8-5, and the Huskies were awaiting a bowl bid over the weekend.
BYUH’s Chen Named an All-American
BYU-Hawaii senior Shih Ting Chen has been selected for the Daktronics/Division II CCA Volleyball All-American Team, it was announced late last week.
Chen was a First Team selection and also was named Ron Lenz National Player of the Year.
The honor marked the third consecutive year Chen was named a Daktronics First Team All-American. She also is the second BYUH player to be honored as the nation’s top player, following Yu Chuan Chen, who won the first Ron Lenz National Player of the Year award in 2005. Shih Ting broke Yu Chuan’s career kills record this season, tallying 1,812, and also ranks second all-time at BYUH with 1,320 digs.
A two-time Daktronics West Region Player of the Year, Chen earned Daktronics All-West Region, PacWest Player of the Year, and All-PacWest First Team accolades in all four years. She was second in the nation this year with 5.24 kills per set.
Led by Chen, BYUH went 22-6 overall this fall, including an 18-2 mark in the Pac West. The Seasiders were upset by Dixie State in the NCAA Division II Regional Semifinals in Nampa, Idaho. In the final two years of Chen’s Seasider career, BYUH went a combined 51-8 overall, including a 26-1 home record inside Cannon Activities Center.
The All-American team is sponsored by Daktronics Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
