Music Fills The Air In Kapolei

UH West Oahu hosts an array of upcoming concerts and performances at its location in Kapolei.

* Nov. 25, dining hall, 12:30-3:30 p.m. — Slack key artist and songwriter Jerry Santos discusses music creation following his performance with UHWO ukulele, slack key guitar and Hawaiian Ensemble students.

* Dec. 3, dining hall, 12:30-3:30 p.m. — Henry Kapono takes the stage for a lunchtime concert and talk-story session. Kapono will share favorite songs and will be joined by UHWO students from MUS 208 performing original pieces. Following the performance, Kapono will discuss music creation.

* Dec. 5, campus center multi-purpose room C208, 7 p.m. — Holiday music comes alive thanks to members of the UHWO chorus, directed by choral instructor Jeremy Wong. Special guests from Mililani High School’s Chamber singers and Kapolei High’s Hurricane singers also join in the fun.

* Dec. 7, campus center C225, 5 p.m. — The college’s MUS 208 (introduction to songwriting) students perform original pieces and explain the stories behind them during a songwriting hoike. Dr. Jon Magnussen leads the course, which also requires students to record original songs within the walls of UHWO’s on-campus recording studio.
