Wi-Fi Now At All Area Libraries

Kaneohe Library’s had it since 2009. Now everyone’s got it.

As of last week, the Kahuku, Kailua, Waimanalo and nearly all of Hawaii’s public library branches have been equipped with free wireless Internet service for their e-patrons. Visitors with laptops, smartphones, tablets, e-readers and other mobile devices can now access the Internet in the public service areas of the neighborhood libraries (except Manoa, for the time being).

“Our patrons will be very excited to know we have expanded our free Wi-Fi service from two Oahu libraries – Kaneohe and Salt Lake-Moanalua – to nearly all 50 libraries statewide,” said state librarian Richard Burns. The former Waimanalo library manager said that the expansion comes as a result of a Hawaii’s Access for All grant and equipment, with a host of matching fund sources, including the Friends of the Library of Hawaii.

Patrons must have a valid library card and PIN number, and bring their own headphones. Printing, however, is not available.
