School Closes In On Better Gym
Dorothy Macy Nobriga Gymnasium at Sacred Hearts Academy is getting a long-awaited facelift, thanks to $150,000 in donations from Matson Foundation and other community groups.
The gym revitalization, which should be completed this month, includes new sports flooring, bleachers, energy-efficient lighting, scoreboard, locker rooms and a weight-training fitness room. A Donor Wall of Honor also will be installed to thank those who contributed to the project at the Kaimuki school. The building, in addition to hosting the Lancers’ ILH sports, also houses its Masses, May Day programs and other special events.
Total cost of the project was estimated to be $1.7 million, with $150,000 of that total coming from community donors: $10,000 from Matson Foundation, $75,000 from First Hawaiian Bank, $10,000 from Pettus Foundation and $5,000 from Central Pacific Bank.
