Readers Theatre To Tell WWII Tales

The third season of Windward Readers Theatre opens next week, featuring plays from the World War II era in observance of the conflict’s 70th anniversary.

Hui o Pohai Nani again sponsors the series in its auditorium. The first show stars veteran actress Sylvia Hormann-Alber reading from Martin Sherman’s play, Rose, which was inspired by the real story of his maternal grandmother. She survived the Warsaw ghetto and Nazi death camp to come to America. Married three times, Rose lived into her 90s. Olivia Dukakis originated the role at Royal National Theatre.

Free public performances are set for 7 p.m. Oct. 7 and 9, and 2 p.m. Oct. 12. Parking is free, and donations are welcome to cover royalty costs incurred by the hui’s entertainment committee.
