Putting Old Drugs, Medications Away In Their Proper Place
East Oahu residents can take advantage of Drug Take-Back Days this month at the Hawaii Kai Kaiser Clinic.
Kaiser Permanente is partnering with the State Attorney General’s office to allow the public to properly dispose of unneeded or expired medications.
The Hawaii Kai Clinic will join this effort from 9 a.m. to noon April 20 in Hawaii Kai Executive Plaza.
The program is designed in part to prevent drug abuse, as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has found that unused medication in the household may contribute to growing rates of prescription drug abuse, particularly among teenagers.
Also, improper disposal (flushing it down toilets or tossing in the trash) can contaminate surface water, ground water and biosolids.
