WW ‘Girls On The Run’ Right Now
Girls from four Windward schools will be going on the run in October — literally. The youth-empowerment program Girls on the Run is accepting online applications until this Friday (Sept. 19) at the schools.
GOTR focuses on boosting life resilience among grades 3-8 via physical activity, team bonding and community service. Twelve weeks of two one-hour lessons conclude with a 5K race Nov. 22, when the girls will put their lessons to the test.
Available programs, dates and times vary at each school: Aikahi Elementary (Mondays and Thursdays, grades 3-6), Enchanted Lake Elementary (Tuesdays and Thursdays, grades 3-6), Kailua
Intermediate (grades 7-8, days to be determined) and Le Jardin Academy (Tuesdays and Fridays, grades 3-5).
To register, visit girlsontherunhawaii.org. Program fee is $75, which includes race registration, two T-shirts, a water bottle, snacks, curriculum and coaching. Financial aid is available.
Volunteers also are needed to serve as “running buddies” for the girls during the finale 5K. To sign up for the race only, which has a $25 fee, go to girlsontherun-hawaii.org/fall-5k.
