Cool Nights Adds 5K For Oct. 11
As the humid summer evenings slowly ebb into the past, Windward residents can look forward to more temperate fall nights — some Cool Kailua Nights, to be precise.
The annual block party and health awareness fair returns Oct. 11 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Whole Foods parking lot.
Keanu Lockwood, Paradise X, Ryan Nakagawa and the Air Force Hana Hou Band will headline the live entertainment, joined by other local musicians. The traditional “doggie fashion show” returns, as well as carnival rides and activities, silent auction, dozens of vendor booths and plenty of food.
In addition to the usual festival slate, the first-ever Kailua Nite Run 5K Fun Run will take place at 7 p.m. at the fair. Expect the usual go-at-your-own-pace vibe, with a nighttime twist: Every participant will be outfitted with headlamps. Those who register before Sept. 26 pay $45, with a $10 increase after that date. Discounts are available for military, students and HGEA members. Register online at active.com (search Kailua). More information about the run is at niterun.com.
All proceeds go to Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii Windward Clubhouse and Castle Medical Center’s Oncology Clinic. Cool Kailua Nights was started in 2006 by Kailua resident Danielle Scherman for her mother, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
