Lecture Series Starts With Parenting Tips
For parents worried about how to best manage their unruly children, Juda Carter has a seminar for you in September in Enchanted Lake.
Emmanuel Episcopal Church’s speaker series will host “Keep It Positive Parenting” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at 780 Keolu Drive.
Carter, co-author of Keep It Positive: A New Approach to Successful Parenting, lectures at Cal State Fullerton and has worked as director of a private school for students with behavioral issues. She advocates a parenting style built on positive reinforcement and mutual respect between family members.
Under the premise that traditional disciplinary methods like timeouts are ineffective, Carter argues for parents changing their own behavior to “inspire” their children, rather than attempting to “coerce” them to behave.
The interactive presentation is free and open to the public.
