LCC Concert Will Help ‘Best Buddies’
Local recording artist and actor Kristian Lei and her nonprofit Honolulu Broadway Babies are going AWOL. But fans of the nonprofit’s shows, which aim to raise awareness for the needs of developmentally challenged individuals, need not worry.
In this case, AWOL stands for Art Without Limits.
AWOL brings together a variety of musicians for three performances: 7:30 p.m. this Thursday and Friday, and 7 p.m. Saturday at Leeward Community College Theatre. The concert intends to raise awareness for Best Buddies Hawaii, a group that fosters friendships between youths with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other middle and high school students.
Area schools with Best Buddies programs include Kapolei High, Kapolei Middle, Aiea High and Pearl City High schools. The program hosts monthly activities for participants and also helps students prepare for employment and/or college.
