‘Aging In Place’ At Palolo Chinese Home

Palolo Chinese Home (PCH) will honor Eddie Flores Jr., president and chief executive officer of L&L Restaurant chain, Oct. 17 with a gala dinner. The “Caring For Generations” dinner and award honors the home’s origins in 1896, when community leaders established it for poor, retired plantation workers. The dinner recognizes outstanding citizens who exhibit selfless commitment to our community through efforts that make a difference in the lives of others.
PCH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to assist seniors and their families by providing a continuum of care, which is professional and interdisciplinary, in a multicultural family setting. The home is open to all regardless of race, religion, gender or national origin. In 2013, PCH served a total of 497 seniors and disabled adults.
Aging in place is a concept that PCH has embraced to help clients maintain quality living by remaining as independent as long as possible. PCH provides a variety of support services that include in-home cleaning, companion and chore services, and meal preparation and delivery.
When independent living is no longer a safe option for seniors, families can turn to PCH senior day care for activities, socialization and care while they are at work. Overnight respite provides temporary care for community members for up to several weeks and provides a break for family members or caregivers.
As needs increase, PCH offers clients and their families what they require at every stage — rehabilitation services and discharge planning, residential and nursing home care, and hospice care — all provided in a homelike setting on its 15-acre campus in Palolo Valley.
Based on its founding principle, PCH strives to provide affordable care to low-income seniors. In addition to the gala dinner, PCH sponsors a golf tournament fundraiser each May.
