Benevolent Group Bestows Aid

Seven Windward schools and organizations are benefiting from a recent spree of educational grants presented by a long-established benevolent society in the community.

Founded in 1903 in Kaneohe, Bow Yee Tong has a community affairs committee, chaired by Barbara Leu, which identifies needy organizations, and the 2014 recipients are listed below.

* St. Ann’s Schools, $840 for six classroom wireless printers; Ben Parker Elementary, $450 for a Casio keyboard for its chorus; King Intermediate, $500 for high-interest literacy materials;

* Kahaluu Elementary, $1,100 ($500 for ukulele band T-shirts and $600 for Scholastic books); Puohala Elementary, $1,000 ($380 for makahiki equipment, yoga mats, imagery tapes, CDs and PE-meet transportation, and $620 for science and math literacy materials, plus a National Geographic magazine subscription);

* Castle Band-Aid Association, $465 for a marimba cart;

* Windward Special Olympics, $1,000 for athlete training fees and equipment.
