Ocean Tips At Kainalu Academy
Windward Community College’s Ian Masterson will team up next month with UH-Manoa’s Dolan Eversole to offer the Turtle Bay-based Kainalu Academy — two five-day camps focused on ocean safety, recreation and education.
Scheduled for 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Aug. 4-8 and Aug. 11-15, the camps will offer lessons in safety, rescue, coastal geography,
Hawaiian culture, health and more. Students ages 10 to 18 will spend time in the ocean daily to surf, paddle, stand-up paddle, snorkel, sail and Jet-ski. Campers will divide their time between Turtle Bay Resort and various North Shore beaches.
Applicants must be proficient swimmers able to pass a swim test. Instructors are all lifeguard-certified with at least five years of experience.
Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Fee is $800 for the full program, or $200 per day, which includes transportation, meals, snacks and a Kainalu Academy-branded hat and rash guard.
