HPU’s Dual Art Show

Pictorialism and psychography are at the heart of the latest exhibits at HPU’s Windward art gallery. Open now until July 11 are Kyle Collins’ “Images from a Floating World” and Sonchai Nisayaphanth’s “Paintings.”

Collins is inspired by early 20th-century pictorialism, a style of photography that “creates” images in lieu of merely recording them, and Chinese literati paintings done in calligraphy ink. His aim is to “celebrate the fleeting ideals of amateur scholar artists.”

A native of Bangkok, Nisayaphanth investigates automatic writing in his paintings, said to be (literally) inspired and spirit-guided.
