BWS Offers Aquaponics Advice
For those who already are experienced in aquaponics, the Board of Water Supply can help you expand your skill set with its Advanced Aquaponics workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon June 14 at Halawa Xeriscape Garden.
The workshop is intended to help people use their aquaponics systems more efficiently and provide solutions to a range of aquaponics problems. Also covered are the role of healthy bacteria in an aquaponics system, how to maintain water quality and clarity, pH, ammonia and nutrient levels, and the best type and amount of fish to use to help your system flourish. The session will be led by staffers from Waianae-based HappyPonics Farm.
The workshop is geared toward those who have an aquaponics system or have had one in the past. Attendees also are invited to share their own experiences and tips in creating and maintain a healthy system.
The workshop costs $5, or free for Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden members. Advanced registration is required by 2 p.m. June 13, or when all spaces are filled. For more information, call 748-5317 or email workshops@hbws.org. Halawa Xeriscape Garden is located at 99-1268 Iwaena St. in Aiea.
