Red Cross: There When Needed

A potentially fatal incident involving an East Oahu swimmer occurred recently at Manoa District Park pool, where four lifeguards and others were able to revive the man who had an apparent heart attack.

According to Red Cross officials, the grateful man survived, the lifeguards will be honored, and you, East Oahu residents, can take a lesson from the whole experience.

In fact, several lessons, if you like — right in your own backyard.

At Red Cross headquarters, located at 4155 Diamond Head Road, several useful courses are underway in June, including online “blended” classes.

The significance of mastering these lifesaving skills is never appreciated more than when one least expects it.

Topics include Adult & Pediatric First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillators; Adult CPR/AED; CPR for Professional Rescuers and Healthcare Providers; Babysitter’s Training; Advanced Child Care Training; and American Red Cross Instructor Training.
