Movement Showcase At Mamiya
The Movement Center Performing Arts School will present an evening of music, food and dance June 21 at Mamiya Theatre, with all proceeds benefiting the Kaimuki-based nonprofit arts school.
The evening is split in two parts: a gala reception honoring Hawaiian music royalty Henry Kapono, who will receive the school’s first-ever Inspiration Award in recognition of his contributions to music and the community; and a concert headlined by Kapono and featuring contemporary dance from Capoeira Besouro Hawaii, Convergence Dance Theatre, Samahdi and TMC’s own Encore Dance Project.
Food will be provided by East Oahu vendors, including Town, Soul, Choco le’a Artisan Chocolates and Southern Wine & Spirits. A raffle also is planned during the reception.
The gala runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and the concert runs from 7:30 to 10. Tickets for the full evening experience cost $100, and concert-only passes are $35.
