Kapolei Middle Student Wins Conservation Poster Contest

Three akamai poster artists from West Oahu will see their work published in the Board of Water Supply’s (BWS) 2015 Water Conservation calendar.

The annual poster and poetry competition, with the theme “Conserve Water; No Effort Is Too Small,” attracted more than 1,300 posters and 200 poetry entries. Winners and honorable mentions in each age category will be on display from June 3 to 12 at Kapolei Hale, and later at Kahala Mall, Windward Mall and the BWS building lobby.

Kapolei Middle School sixth-grader Rayla Galvan took first place for grades 5-6; and Holomua Elementary students Sadie Kim and Kingston FeBenito placed second and third, respectively, among kindergarten artists.

“The quality and creativity of the entries we receive continue to exceed our expectations,” said BWS chairman Duane Miyashiro. “The winning students proficiently expressed ways for the community to help ensure a sustainable water supply.”
