Wells: Canada Helping Schools

A recent sales-incentive trip to Hawaii brought a celebrity jewelry empire in touch with a Windward-based nonprofit that helps fulfill the humblest needs of area schools.

Community Helping Schools was the proud recipient of a $3,331.18 check from lia sophia, a direct-selling fashion jewelry company that was in Hawaii to reward its top sales performers from Canada. The money was put to work right away by CHS founder Kathie Wells, who converted the donation to construction paper, water-color paint sets, classroom fans, pens, glue and more from teachers’ wish lists.

“This was such a great group of caring, generous women,” said Wells, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties. (She also started Kalaheo’s Project Graduation when her sons attended and established a scholarship at the school.) “At CHS, we believe one of the best chances for children to succeed in life is through community support for a good education.”

Marcia Cota, managing director of lia sophia Canada, said she appreciated the Hawaiian hospitality shown to her group, “and this seemed like a small way to show our gratitude.”
