Instead of the planned “talk story” session with world-renowned cinematographer Michael Prickett, Surfer the Bar will have a fundraiser tonight (March 28) for the stricken man, who was injured in mid-March while rescuing a fellow diver in Tahiti.
Prickett, a Mililani resident, was reportedly helping film a commercial underwater when he saw a colleague in distress. The deep dive to save him, and then the rise back to the surface, brought on serious decompression illness, causing paralysis. As of press time, Prickett remained under care in Tahiti, paralyzed from the waist down.
Surfer the Bar, located at Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, will host the fundraiser in order to help pay for his recovery. According to Jodi Wilmott, friend and host of the venue’s talk story series, the benefit will begin at 6 p.m. For updated information, call bar manager Chris Pirrone at 293-6000.
