Church Tackles Homeless Topic
Emmanuel Episcopal Church continues its free speaker series at 7 p.m. Thursday with a talk on “Tackling Homelessness in Hawaii.”
Colin Kippen, chairman of Hawaii Interagency Council on Homelessness, and city housing director Jun Yang will speak and answer questions about the state’s homeless population and what governmental plans are coming together to combat it. Kippen has expressed an “all hands on deck” approach to fully involve all levels of public and private help, including the general public, as part of the solution.
The church hosted a screening of the local documentary Seeds of Hope last month with discussion of local farming challenges by Nalo Farms’ Dean Okimoto, past president of Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation. That program generated a crowd of 50 interested residents and a buzz of talk about GMOs.
Emmanuel is located at 780 Keolu Drive, next to Enchanted Lake Elementary School. For more information, call 262-4548.
