Seeds, Plants Welcome At Kualoa Fest

Sharing plant seeds could start a greener lifestyle revolution.

That’s the goal of the Community Seed & Plant Exchange Farm Festival, open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kualoa Ranch’s Hale Moli’i Fish Ponds.

Sponsored by Permablitz Hawaii and Cubanakoa Foundation, the free festival’s intent is to capitalize on International Permaculture Day’s message of communal food security and environmental conservation. To this end, attendees should bring seeds, starters and plants to share and exchange with others.

Guest speakers include Windward state Rep. Jessica Wooley, state Sen. Maile Shimabukuro, Ka’ala Farms co-founder and executive director Eric Enos and KYA Sustainability Studio’s director of policy Amy Brinker.

There also will be workshops on preserving and pickling, farmer micro-financing, air-layering and propagation, and seed-bombs, as well as local food vendors and musical entertainment.

A mirror event also is planned on the leeward side at Kahumana Organic Farm in Waianae at the same day and time.
