The Coach Steps Away

With our Perry & Price 30th anniversary coming up, I’ve decided this will be my last column.

It is with deep sorrow that I must retire “The Right Price” after so many years of working with the gang at MidWeek.

When I first started at MidWeek almost 29 years ago, the office was located in Kaneohe.

Since I had never written a weekly column, I was thrilled when then-publisher Mr. Ken Berry asked my boss at KSSK, the late Earl McDaniel, if I could accept an invitation to write a column for MidWeek.

Ken and Earl taught me how to write a column, and since I had never done anything like that, it was a real exciting time in my career.

Back then, columnists had to mail in their columns to be edited. Later on, we had to fax them to the editor. Today, of course, it’s all by email.

I just want to say a big mahalo to all of the staff and management at MidWeek for all their support.

As some of you may know, over the years I’ve donated my MidWeek pay to an MBA scholarship fund at Chaminade University. There now are a lot of local MBAs who have benefited from your support over the years.

So, on behalf of the scholarship recipients and KSSK, I want to send you a heartfelt thank you for allowing me to be part of the MidWeek family for so many years.

Big mahalo to Mr. Ken Berry, publisher Ron Nagasawa, editor Don Chapman, senior editor Terri Hefner, and all of my readers whom I have never met face-to-face for the wonderful feedback.
