SPCA Sterilization Campaign

Oahu Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals offers neutering and spaying services for dogs and cats April 24-26 and 28-29.

The event is a partnership between the Kapolei-based SPCA and Animal Balance, a nonprofit that conducts sterilization campaigns. Pet owners should call SPCA to schedule an appointment.

“We’re excited to be working with Animal Balance in a program where we have the ability to significantly reduce the number of animals that are able to reproduce,” said Stephanie Ryan, Oahu SPCA founder. “Our joint effort will have an impact on pet population management in our area and we encourage pet owners to take advantage of this cost-effective opportunity to sterilize their dog or cat.”

The clinic will feature Zeuterin, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved, non-invasive sterilization injection. The product is for male dogs from 3 to 10 months old. The one-time procedure only takes a few minutes. SPCA does warn, however, of potential adverse reactions including vomiting, loss of appetite and lethargy.

Surgical neutering and spaying for both cats and dogs also will be available.

A Zeuterin injection costs $25; surgical neutering or spaying costs $85 for dogs and $25 for cats.
