‘Fans Rule’ Tour Brings Globetrotters To Laie

The Harlem Globetrotters, who first played in Hawaii in 1946, are back to play a four-game series on three Hawaii islands, with a special stop for Windward Oahu fans at 7 p.m. April 28 at BYU-Hawaii’s Cannon Activities Center in Laie.

The iconic basketball squad also plans a 30-minute pre-show, Magic Pass, where fans can interact with the team on the court, starting at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $20 for this part. Tickets for the game itself cost $80 for courtside seats, $28 in the stands.

The Globetrotters’ 2014 “Fans Rule” Tour comes with one conceit – fans can vote online to choose an unusual rule that the team must follow during the game. Possibilities right now include two-ball basketball, six-on-five play and trick-shot challenges. Vote online at harlemglobetrotters.com/rule.

Founded in the 1920s, the Globetrotters began as an all-black basketball troop that operated outside the whites-only professional leagues, but it eventually evolved into an entertainment squad with the skills to delight crowds with their antics and still beat serious teams. The team has since played more than 20,000 games.
