Kailua High Firing Up Imu Pit For Easter Feasts

Two Kailua High School programs are offering to trade turkeys for a little cash this spring, and time is running out for imu fans to reserve their spot.

The school will cook Easter dinner for the public via its fundraising imu roast on campus April 18. The first 300 orders will be honored for a fee of $25, and wrapped, labeled turkeys or other meats should be delivered to the imu pit near the school parking lot between 3 and 4:30 p.m. that day. Pickup time is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. April 19, the day before Easter.

Place thawed, seasoned and well-wrapped meat in a strong aluminum tray. Imu master Todd Hendricks advises making three deep cuts in the meat (for pork butt, roast or ham) to make sure it cooks right. Also, write your name on the foil with a permanent marker before the final wrap. Mail-in deadline is April 11, and weight limit is 25 pounds per tray. Mail checks, payable to Kailua High School, to 451 Ulumanu Drive, Kailua HI 96734. Write “Attention IMU” on the lower left corner of the envelope. Enclose phone number and a self-addressed stamped envelope for the imu tag and receipt.

The 2015 Project Grad committee is trying to get a head start on its budget for next year by partnering with the robotics team fundraiser.
