Mission Hosts Modern Buddhism Lecture
Buddhism and the West need each other, according to David R. Loy, and at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mililani Hongwanji, he will explain why during the Oahu District Council Buddhist Education English Seminar.
In the free public seminar, Loy – a Zen teacher, professor and author – will explain that “by understanding the potential of the ideas and their influence on each other, we can contribute more immediately to positive and productive transformations in the world.”
In his work he focuses on what Buddhism and modernity can learn from each other, believing that the West sees value in restructuring society to make it more just, while Buddhists want to awaken spiritually to end suffering.
Interested residents should RSVP to Rene Mansho at 291-6151, email renemansho@hawaii.rr.com or call the mission at 625-0925. Mililani Hongwanji is located at 95-257 Kaloapau St.
