FilCom President, COO Resigns

Rose Cruz Churma has stepped down as president and COO of Waipahu-based Filipino Community Center, effective Feb. 28.

Churma cited personal reasons – including urgent family obligations and wanting to spend more time in the Philippines – as part of her decision, which was announced Feb. 14.

“We appreciate the energy, commitment and passion that Rose brought to the FilCom Center during her tenure over the past two years. We know that we can continue to count on her support should the need arise,” stated Edmund Aczon, FilCom Board of Directors chairman. “The Board shares my sentiments in wishing her well in her future endeavors.”

Former FilCom president Geminiano “Toy” Arre will return to assist in day-today operations until an official replacement is found. FilCom Board of Governors director Robin Campaniano will lead the executive search.

During her tenure at FilCom, Churma promoted education via FilCom Sundays, which showcases regional indigenous culture; Healthy Mondays, which feature workshops about healthy living and disease prevention; Magnegosyo Entrepreneurship classes that provide lessons in entrepreneurship and small business ownership; and the Kinabukasan series, which navigates financial literacy.
