Spring Break Vandals Strike Schools, Park
During last week’s spring break – and before – at least two Kaneohe area schools and one park reported acts of vandalism.
The public is urged to call Crimestoppers at 955-8300 if they have any information about the following incidents:
* Kahaluu Elementary School reported that someone removed “over a dozen manhole covers in various places around the school.”
* Graffiti covered parts of Heeia Elementary School, King Intermediate School and Kaneohe District Park. According to King school officials, taggers hit on March 9, the first day of spring break for Hawaii public schools. It was the second incident of vandalism on the campus this school year. Markings covered the walls, hallways and mural.
“With the help of the police department, we hope to identify the criminals soon,” read a statement on the school newsletter. “The hard work of cleanup and restoration already has begun. Although our students will return to a cleaned campus, they will be shown pictures and videos … They need to see and feel the violation that was done to their ‘home.'”
