Summer Research At Pali Momi Hospital

Aiea’s Pali Momi Medical Center is one of four sites that is accepting undergraduate researchers for the 2014 Summer Student Research Program. The program, which is run through Hawaii Pacific Health, is designed to provide hands-on experience to students interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Students also will be introduced to clinical research.

In addition to Pali Momi, other program sites are Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, Straub Clinic & Hospital and Wilcox Memorial Hospital. All four sites belong to Hawaii Pacific Health’s network. Through a competitive selection process, 10-12 students will be selected to participate. Each one will become a member of a research team and receive guidance from a physician at one of the four hospitals.

The program runs from June 23 to Aug. 14, 2014, and applications are due Feb. 14.

During the summer program, students will learn about medical research design and methodology, and clinical research in medicine. Participants also will meet physicians in various specialities and visit a number of medical facilities. They also can select surgeries to observe or physicians to work with based on their area of interest.
