’Tis The Season For Holiday Fun
The holiday season is in full swing, and West Oahu certainly knows how to celebrate. Here are some upcoming holiday events in the area:
* The Salvation Army Kroc Center Hawaii hosts an evening of family-friendly holiday fun with its A Touch of Christmas from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The party features a live nativity scene, ornament projects, games, prizes, face painting, balloon making, a bungee run, a photo booth, food vendors and live music. Plus, families will have the opportunity make their own gingerbread house or decorate a gingerbread man.

* St. Francis Hospice hosts its 25th annual Light Up a Memory tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday at The Maurice J. Sullivan Family Hospice Center in Ewa Beach.
The ceremony honors the memory of the hospice’s family and friends. Guests also can make a donation in advance and place a star on the tree with the name of the person whom they would like to honor. All proceeds support its operations and bereavement support for families. The event also will feature hula and Hawaiian music performances by Naleo Nahenahe Ona Kupuna.
The Maurice J. Sullivan Family Hospice Center is located at 91-2127 Fort Weaver Road. Donations can be sent to St. Francis Hospice, 2251 Mahalo St., Honolulu, Hawaii 96817. For more information, call 595-7566.
* The Aiea Community Christmas Parade and Fun Fair begins with the parade at 9 a.m. starting from Pearl Ridge Elementary School. Spectators can enjoy Santa, the Aiea High School Marching Band, the Marine Forces Band, schools, businesses and other community group marching units before heading over to the fair at the old sugar mill site.
The fair, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., has entertainment, a food truck by All Kine Grindz, shave ice and keiki activities. Call 741-6047.
* Thanks to a number of area sponsors, you won’t have to go all the way into town to see a dazzling display of Christmas lights.
Kapolei City Lights kicks off at 6 p.m. this Saturday with an electric light parade beginning at Kapolei Parkway and Kioiki Street and continuing toward Kapolei Hale.
Following the parade, the tree lighting ceremony takes place at 7 p.m. at Kapolei Hale. The ceremony features live entertainment by Sean Na’au’ao and various artists from Brown Bags to Stardom. Holiday displays also will be on view at Kapolei Hale.
Food trucks, children’s games and activities and more are planned. And if there aren’t enough lights for you, the ceremonies conclude with a fireworks show.
