‘Choreopoet’ Performs At LCC
San Francisco-based performance artist Marc Bamuthi Joseph brings his signature art form known as choreopoetry to the Islands at 8 p.m. Saturday at Leeward Theatre at Leeward Community College.
Blending spoken word and dance, Joseph creates The Spoken World, a three-part series that examines fatherhood, reflects on American hip hop culture in various countries, and tells of a connection between a mourning mother in Chicago and an orphan in Sudan.
Recognized for his work in performance, arts education and artistic curation, Joseph most recently has been nominated for the 2013 New York Dance and Performance Award in the category of Outstanding Production. He currently is the director of performing arts at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.
Tickets cost $30, $20 or $15. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit LCCTheatre.hawaii.edu or call 455-0385. The box office also will open one hour before each show.
