Sony Open Helping Nonprofits

The Sony Open held last January at Waialae Country Club helped to raise $1 million for Friends of Hawaii Charities, which recently distributed grants from the fund to more than 170 nonprofit groups across the state.

Among them are the following organizations with direct benefit to East Oahu: HUGS (Help Understanding Group Support), Kick Start Karate, Palolo Chinese Home and American Red Cross-Hawaii chapter.

The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and FHC members also donated to the fund, which has distributed more than $13 million since 1998.
