Business Leaders On The Move In Hawaii – 8/21/13

Helen J. D. Whippy is Chaminade University’s new provost, and will act as an administrative officer in areas such as curriculum and faculty appointments. Whippy previously served as senior vice president at University of Guam.

Kelvin Osborne has been named vice president of operations with DCK Pacific Construction. He will oversee all DCK Pacific project operations in Hawaii. Osborne brings to the position more than 30 years of construction experience. He recently served as senior vice president of Hawaii operations for Watts Constructors LLC.

Toby Tonaki has been appointed assistant vice president and claims supervisor-litigation management at Island Insurance. In his position, Tonaki will oversee the claims division’s litigation management unit. He has nearly 20 years of litigation experience. Prior to joining Island Insurance, Tonaki was a deputy attorney general in the state of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General.

Chase Mitsuda has been named the National Association of Independent Schools “Teacher of the Future.” He will lead an online discussion forum designed to share innovative ideas and teaching techniques, as well as create a demonstration video to inspire others. Mitsuda teaches eighth grade at Punahou School.

Susan Ichinose has been named president of the Legal Aid Society’s board of directors. Ichinose is a civil litigation advocate, workplace investigator and employment practices consultant, among other responsibilities. She concentrates her practice in employment-related claims, contract actions, real estate disputes, business torts/fraud and appeals.

Mel Racadio has been appointed assistant vice president and senior business banking officer on Oahu for Central Pacific Bank. In her new position, Racadio is responsible for managing and growing a team portfolio of high-valued clients in loan and deposit accounts/relationships. Racadio previously was with Bank of Hawaii, where she served as AVP and business banking officer.

Lance Kosaka has been appointed executive chef at Top of Waikiki. He will completely redevelop the menu, which is scheduled to be finalized by early September. Kosaka also will be executive chef at Skybar Waikiki, Hawaii’s highest open-air rooftop bar and tapas lounge, slated to open in spring of 2014.
