Dole Luau Continues Tradition Of Funding Robotics Program
Dole Plantation’s annual luau once again proved itself a successful fundraising partner for the Waialua Robotics Team, raising $10,000 for the nationally respected educational program.
Since 2008, the Central Oahu landmark has donated more than $50,000 to the team to support its mission of promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) studies.
“The Dole Plantation fundraiser has developed into a critical source of financial support to Waialua Robotics, allowing our kids to travel to participate in FIRST Robotics competitions across the country,” said Glenn Lee, a Waialua teacher and the team’s lead coordinator. “Dole Plantation and Castle & Cooke were behind us from our earliest days, and we look forward to many future regional competitions with their support.”
Dole Plantation director of operations Mike Moon said the team’s accomplishments provide a positive example for other students to follow. “The team is obviously very successful, but winning is a by-product of believing in their core values of teamwork, commitment and responsibility. We couldn’t be more proud of our own kids from right here in Waialua, showing they can compete with the brightest young minds across the nation.”
The May 9 benefit was attended by 350 guests who came to enjoy the music, food and a demonstration by the robotics team.
