Kualoa Obstacle Race Saturday

An international leader in obstacle racing, the Spartan Race will be staged this Saturday at Kualoa Ranch, where promoters expect thousands of competitors at the 6 a.m. start line.

Using a 5K format, runners will start in heats every 15 minutes on a course whose details are “kept secret” until race day.

“You need a little physical conditioning and a taste for some adventure,” hinted race founder Joe Desena. “It’s not an extreme sporting event that will scare people away. It’s about the fun, getting dirty, getting down in the mud – something exciting and new.”

Also planned at the ranch is a festival with music, a keiki course and fun challenge. A Spartan Kids Adventure Race will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.
