Two Grants For St. John Vianney
Two local funders have come through recently with support for St. John Vianney School’s early learning program as well as its science lab for the middle grades.
* A $30,000 grant from Harold K.L. Castle Foundation will help the Enchanted Lake parochial school open its new science laboratory this fall, according to principal Caryn DeMello. “Having a new classroom-lab specifically for science with the proper equipment and programs,” she explained, “will help students of Windward Oahu reach a higher achievement in science and prepare them to be future leaders in our community.”
* A $15,000 grant from Atherton Family Foundation will expand SJV’s Early Learning Center, allowing new space for programs for keiki who are age 3. “Statistics prove there is a need for another high-quality early learning (service) in Kailua and Waimanalo area for 3-year-olds,” said school board member Earl Walker, “and this new ELC will support children and working families by providing a nationally accredited program of early care and education.”
The school currently educates about 260 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
