Robots Never Sleep, They Keep Raising $

Kalani High School’s Robotics Academy students stayed busy during the summer, but they also could use a little help from the community.

“(The academy) is seeking donations and sponsorships to support several programs that benefit Kalani Robotics students and the community,” said team adviser Bryan Silver. In addition to an annual budget for mainland competitions, he noted, funds also help with public demonstrations and other activities.

The team has 54 students, both on-campus and off; 20 of them put in the extra time to participate in traveling competitions, such as the World Championships in Saint Louis, Mo. The team also earned the Entrepreneur Award in the Hawaii Regional tourney and won the tournament with its alliance teams, Baldwin and Leilehua high schools.

“We are not only looking for individuals and companies that would like to sponsor us in the upcoming years, but we are in need of mentors who will help guide the students through the year,” said Silver.

Needed areas of expertise are video, web and art design; advertising, public relations and speaking, machinists, business and electrical and mechanical engineers.
