‘Visiting Scholar’ At UHWO March 5

Gary Okihiro, a Hawaii Mission Academy graduate and author of 11 books on Asian and Hawaii history, visits UH West Oahu March 5 to present, “Hora, Hora, Hora, Pearl Harbor and Other Acts of Infamy.”

Okihiro is a professor of international and public affairs and the founding director for the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race at Columbia University.

“Dr. Okihiro is a true pioneer in the field of Asian American history, and we are honored to have him as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at UH West Oahu,” said chancellor Gene Awakuni. “He brings tremendous insight on the subject of World War II and the internment camps, as a wealth of understanding to UH West Oahu’s multidisciplinary research project investigating the Honouliuli Internment and Prisoner of War Camp in West Oahu.”
