‘Legally Blonde’ Brings Pomeranian Pooch Onto DHT Stage
Humans and canines star July 19-Aug. 4 in Diamond Head Theatre’s Legally Blonde the Musical.
Elle Woods, played by Jody Bill, plays the unlikely Harvard Law School graduate, accompanied everywhere by her pinkly pampered pet Bruiser, played by Bobby Gorgeous. The white Pomeranian aced his audition June 15 on the theater lawn (“small-sized dog, must take commands from its owner”). Candidates were eyed for two roles by director Andrew Sakaguchi, artistic director John Rampage and dog behaviorist Wendy Mah.
“We were prepping for weeks for this audition,” admitted Bobby’s owner, Guylynn Gia. “Many salmon pieces and turkey bits later, he nailed the ‘speak’ command. This was the most challenging command to work on as I have worked with him for years to tone down his bark.”
Bobby has been the darling of the blogosphere, Facebook and Twitter tots. He placed second at a dog surf-a-thon, won Schofield Barracks’ dog-owner look-alike contest, was crowned Best Dressed Dog and more. Who knows what’s next – a Po’okela award?
The Broadway hit also stars Megan Mount as hairstylist Paulette, David Bachler as Elle’s boyfriend Warner, and Joel Libed as smart-and-sensitive law student Emmett.
Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday and 3 p.m. July 27 and Aug. 3. Tickets cost $50 to $15 and can be reserved at 733-0274 or online at diamondheadtheatre.com.
