New Coaches, Golf Benefit For Chaminade
Former Kalani girls soccer coach Michelle Richardson has moved up to head coach at Chaminade.
She guided Kalani to OIA East titles in 2009 and 2010. The team also was OIA Red runner-up in 2010 and later finished third in the state tournament.
Richardson has coached nearly 20 years, including 14 in Hawaii and Northern California. The St. Mary’s College graduate was a four-year letter winner and the Gaels’ team captain her senior year.
Chaminade also has hired Marcus Chambers as men’s soccer coach and Keawe Ayau as women’s tennis coach. A New Mexico native, Chambers directs Hawaii Rush Soccer Club’s 15-team Youth Academy and coaches its U18 team. Prior to his arrival here last year, he directed the Youth Academy of New Mexico’s Rush Soccer Club for six years. A graduate of New Mexico State and its team captain, he later played for National Premier Soccer League’s Albuquerque Asylum team.
Ayau took over as Silverswords’ interim head coach last season and guided them to their only tennis victory of the 2013 campaign, a 5-4 win over George Fox. A three-time state champion in both singles and doubles at Kamehameha, Ayau gives private tennis lessons to all ages and recently guided a team of seniors to the USTA Super Senior League national championships in Arizona.

It is common for athletic departments in the PacWest Conference to put on annual fundraising golf tournaments, according to CUH athletics director Bill Villa. They provide a fun outdoor activity for alumni, boosters, coaches, staff, family, friends and corporate sponsors to enjoy the day together for a common cause – to enhance the experiences of all CUH student-athletes. To sign up for the tournament, visit goswords.com. For more information, call the athletic department at 735-4790.
