Habilitat Luau, Auction June 1
Habilitat is preparing for its 13th annual Luau, Auction and Benefit Concert, set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 1 at King Intermediate School with Henry Kapono headlining the entertainment.
Organizers expect about 2,000 guests, and tickets are selling now for $35 (13 and older) and $15 (ages 6 to 12) for “an eight-course, authentic, home-cooked” Hawaiian menu. Other packages and table sponsorships are available. For more information, call 235-3691 or visit habilitat.com/luau.
Also taking the stage will be John Cruz, Sistah Robi Kahakalau (a longtime Habilitat supporter) and halau performing traditional Tahitian and Hawaiian hula. For the keiki, there will be inflatable bouncers, face painting, balloon animals and other activities. Surfer Joe Teipel will host the live auction, and a silent auction will offer vacation getaways, musical instruments, electronics and more.
The large Kaneohe-based substance-abuse treatment center is self-supporting, as it does not have state or federal contracts for its work with adults. Founded in 1971, it has academic courses and also trains residents in new work skills to prepare them for life after the treatment program.
