‘I Love Kailua’ Fair Is April 28
For the 21st straight year, Kailua is about to take to the streets. The annual “I Love Kailua” town party will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 on Kailua Road, from Hahani Street to Kuulei Road, offering a feast of food, music, art, plants and just plain Sunday fun.
The block party benefits Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle, which keeps the community green and free of unnecessary signs, while safeguarding its natural resources. The town party’s souvenir buttons sell for $3 each from area merchants and are the main source of funds for LKOC. The 2013 version features the Mokuluas and is designed by area artist Thomas Deir.
A main attraction will be the “Taste of Kailua,” offering samples for sale from nearly two dozen Kailua restaurants, markets, bakeries and even a tea room.
At least 50 Windward artists will display, sell and demonstrate their skills, while other groups will have exhibits and information on their missions to serve the community. Castle Medical Center plans a mini health fair with free health screenings, and there will be an activity area for keiki. Shoppers also will find a selection of orchids and other plants.
The live entertainment lineup includes Chris Vandercook Band, Pattye’s Hula Studio, Puamana, the Army Jazz Band, Men in Grey Suits, the Pacific Fleet Band and more.
With thousands expected, parking is at a premium in the town center lot fronting Longs. Enter from Hahani Street next to Teddy’s Bigger Burgers. Residents are encouraged to walk to the party or ride their bikes, and a secured area will be available for them. Traffic will be diverted from the block party streets between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Sponsoring the LKOC event are Kaneohe Ranch and Harold K.L. Castle Foundation. For more information, call 234-0404.
