Improving Community Through Action

The Junior League of Honolulu is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing potential and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The league’s initial project in 1923 was making layettes for Japanese earthquake victims. This was followed by a nutrition improvement program for children. Other early projects included occupational therapy at Shriners Children’s Hospital and a follow-up clinic at Queen’s Medical Center.

Ninety years later, our outreach programs continue to benefit our community through partnerships and direct financial support. Here are a few of our programs:

Wahine Forum: Presented by Junior League of Honolulu and Hawaii Business Magazine, Wahine Forum is an annual conference for women leaders. It focuses on providing the knowledge and tools to move attendees from inspiration to action, empowering them to achieve more-fulfilling careers and make more-meaningful contributions.

My Story: My Story is a character-building program dedicated to helping middle school girls discover their own power through verbal sharing and creative activities. The core curriculum covers topics such as body image, friendship and love.

Kids in the Kitchen: Kids in the Kitchen is designed to help address the urgent issues surrounding childhood nutrition. Junior League of Honolulu volunteers provide interactive educational initiatives, such as cooking demonstrations, for children and families.

The Junior League of Honolulu organizes and manages one fundraising event per year, with all proceeds going toward our community outreach projects and programs for local women and teen girls in need. The annual friend-raiser, SACS in the City, exemplifies the pinnacle of fierce female fashion that incorporates a dazzling silent auction of luxury handbags, thrilling fashion runway show and delectable three-course luncheon. The ninth annual SACS in the City will take place Saturday, March 16, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki in collaboration with DFS Galleria Waikiki. Tickets cost $125 per person.
