Waialua scholars George and Willa Tanabe discussed their acclaimed book, Japanese Buddhist Temples in Hawaii: An Illustrated Guide (2012) Feb. 2 at Waialua Hongwanji Mission, highlighting local temples, including the host of their lecture. (It opened in 1902.) They’re both UH emeritus professors, and the state’s 90 Japanese Buddhist temples are their passion.
