Surfer-Turned-Musician Takes North Shore Stage Dec. 11
Legendary surfer and musician Tom Curren performs Dec. 11 at Surfer, The Bar at Turtle Bay Resort.
Curren, a three-time world champion by the age of 26, quickly built a name for himself in the international surf community with his powerful and graceful style.
Curren has pulled back from the world of competitive surfing to focus on his music career, and the result is the EP
Summerland Road. The single by the same name can be downloaded free at tomcurren.com. A full-length album is due out next year.
Curren grew up playing drums, bass, guitar and ukulele and early on began writing and performing his own music. As a professional surfer, Curren was exposed to an international palette of music, which is reflected in his songwriting. His music features a mixture of jazz, acoustic guitar and African rhythms.
His musical talents brought him to the attention of many industry insiders including producer John Alagia, who has worked with Dave Matthews, Jason Mraz and John Mayer. His playing also caught the attention of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jackson Browne, who asked Curren to be a member of his touring band in 2011.
Tickets for the show are on sale at groovetickets.com, bampproject.com and all Local Motion stores.
General admission is $25, and VIP tickets cost $50 in advance.
