Grower Expands Water-plant Business To Waimanalo Farm

The state’s largest water-plant grower has expanded to Waimanalo, offering nearly 100 varieties of water lilies and water plants for both residential and commercial clients at 41-829 Kakaina St.

Geobunga recently moved to its own 1-acre farm, where it also stocks the containers to hold and enhance the plants – pottery, natural and polished river rock, lava pavers and colorful plant bowls.

“We are very excited and feel so fortunate to be able to open a second location for our customers on the Windward side,” said executive director Andrew Dedrick. “And through our free Saturday workshops, we hope to grow the interest in gardening for everyone.”

The next workshops are scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 1 on holiday container gardens.

Dedrick estimates that the new Waimanalo site, which had its official opening Oct. 6, should equal its Salt Lake location in sales by the end of the year. Both stores carry the same inventory and offer the same Saturday gardening workshops. He said Geobunga has “quadrupled” its production after experiencing double sales growth each month of the past year.

An impressive display of its water lilies also can be found at the entrance to Honolulu Zoo – all donated by the company.

Geobunga is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
